takeoff | The take off is situated at 40 minutes from the town of Ayacucho. On a hilltop at 3500 m that's named after the town that lays behind. 'Campanallo'. The Takeoff has a triangle shaped area and lays just above the road that's takes you there. It's facing north from where the wind usely comes all year around. |
---|---|
landing | For landing there are a few options. The best place to landing in the “zona recreational de Quicapataâ€. It has recently been declared official paragliding landingplace. It’s a huge green area just next to the military quarters. Try to avoid aproximities above the military, they get pissed sometimes. It’s situated at an altitude of 2900 m that’s 600 m lower than take-off. Just be careful with the power line and make sure you have enough altitude to get there. Leave the landing through the north-gate and take a right to the road. From there you can get a cab back to town. |
weather | in flying season almost none. possibility of big rainclouds in the late afternoon coming from the south. Ayacucho lays in a kind of valley and you can see clouds forming on all horizons. In wintertime that's when its best for flying you have open skies most of the time with an average cloudcoverage of 20% |
rules | It's better to advice the airport of you activities (066312418). there are two flights a day that come from Lima. One early in the morning and one at 16h30 in the afteroon. The flight come from the north and land direction south. |
access | You can take a cab from the center of town and ask for the town of campanallocc. Our club has a toyota land cruiser to take pilots up for a reasonable price including driver. Just give me a call. |
comments | One of the best places to fly in Peru according to pilots from Lima from semana santa uptill september. Very stabil flying in blue thermals. best flying time is around noon when the wind gets to 15 km/h. it's not advisible to fly there with no wind bacause of the altitude and landing can be pritty fast with no wind. You can find the house thermal crossing the first valley and then to your left. |
