takeoff | You must take off only from the area marked by wooden poles. In order to avoid congestion and save the grass on the takeoff please prepare you glider behind the takeoff area and come to the takeoff zone only when you are ready. |
---|---|
landing | There are 2 landing sites. The marker on the map indicates the principal landing site which is also suitable for hang gliders. Shuttle bus departs from this landing at weekends. Do not leave your car there if nobody remains on the landing site, car break-ins and theft has happened several times. The other landing is here: 44.979950, 7.447859, and it is mostly used by PG pilots. It is OK to leave the car on the street at this landing. If not flying XC, please use only the official landing sites. |
weather | Do not fly with foen winds! Extremely turbulent and dangerous. Keep eye on rapidly developing thunderstorms in the summer months. |
rules | Pilots face lots of regulations continuously imposed by park's authorities, the situation is fragile and several times there has been a risk of permanent closure of this otherwise nice flying site. It is important for everyone to respect the rules and airspaces in order to keep this flying site open. As of 2016 the flying site can be used all year long again! However the shuttle can operate only from April until October, in the winter months you must walk up to the takeoff. In order to fly there you must be an associate member of Piosassco flying club. Get a temporary season membership card directly from the shuttle driver (10eur). The park's rangers may occasionally carry out checks of the membership cards at the entrance gate or up on the takeoff. The park's regulations allow only maximum of 2 or 3 shuttles per day, each max. 8 persons. No reservation of the place is possible, first come first served. If you are too late to get the place, you can have you wing carried up by the shuttle (5eur) but yourself - walk up the hill (45-60min). Cumiana airfield is nearby (few kilometers south), beware of the skydiving activity there, and better - fly around their airfield. The CTR of Turin aiport is also very close, do not fly cross country towards the city of Turin or towards east. |
access | As the takeoff site is in the park, the car must be let at the entrance and then walk approximately 45min-1h. ALternatively, take the shuttle bus from the principal landing site. Please note that number of shuttle runs is limited to 2 per day and maximum 3 on weekends. be there on time (no later than 11AM) to make sure you get the place. For the working days, booking shuttle is compulsory. Minimum 3 persons required. |
comments | Despite the fact this flying site has been included in park's territory, and flying is under constant pressure of laws and regulations, people frequent this site on all flyable days. Good flatland XC flights on the days when the sky over mountains is too cloudy. WARNING: some recent occurrences of petty-theft from the cars left on landing site suggest you should better leave the car somewhere in town if nobody is at the landing site. |
