takeoff | Coordinates: N45.338362, E7.543034 Altitude: 1270 m Exposure: SE Not very steep but also not very big field. There is an alternative takeoff site just on the NE site in case N/NE winds are present. Do not attempt to soar at low altitude right on the right from the takeoff. In case of loss of altitude there are no emergency landing sites. The best is trying to get thermals just on the left from takeoff (over parking) or straight ahead over the antenna towers. |
---|---|
landing | Coordinates: N45.311019 E7.541952 Altitude: 550 m Normally the landing direction is southeastward (due to prevailing eastern breeze winds in summer season). Please note that the landing field has got a slight down-slope towards southeast and phone line at the end, so never try to land long. The best if you enter the field already at low altitude from the west corner. Its much better there. The north corner may surprise with rather strong ascending or descending streams and make you land too short or too long. Please beware of high-tension power lines further west of the landing field. |
weather | DO not fly with W or NW winds, particularly in foen wind conditions. Even though on takeoff site it may seem calm, on landing site foen wind may exceed 10m/s intensity. In hot season thunderstorms may form extremely quickly and pose danger - suck-in, strong easter winds or severe wind gusts on landing site or other places in valley (even if thunderstorm stays over mountains 10km away). Do not take off if cumulonimbus clouds can be observed nearby! |
rules | Please consider the fact the flying site is already in the CTR (>1500ft AGL) of Caselle, however the commercial aircraft do not fly towards mountains an it is quite calm area. Helicopter traffic may be present over Lanzo valley. Do not exit on the plains towards the Caselle airport for more than few km away from mountains! Always check the most recent VFR flight map for detailed information. |
access | Getting to Corio: 1) From Turin: get on the Motorway SP2 which leads to Caselle Airport. Do not exit at airport but continue on SP2 which becomes a 2-way highway. After passing Cirie and Nole turn right and follow road signs to Corio. 2) From Corio Center to Landing site: If coming from Nole (or Turin) turn right on the traffic light, follow the road for approximately 600m until reaching a sort of factory or storage buildings with a small picnic site on left. The landing site is the field on the left. 3) Takeoff site from Corio center If coming from Nole/Turin, turn left at traffic lights, go up in the town center until a T crossroad, turn left, then after 100m take 1st exit from roundabout. Follow the road which should cross river on ancient bridge (approx 1km from town center) follow the road up until reaching a village with a small church. Pass the church on the right. After a while the road should become a gravel road. Next crossroad straight, then after left until reached a parking place. From there walk on a path (southwards) for approximately 5min. As of November 2011 there are no shutte services to the takeoff. For going up or recovering the car please cooperate with the local pilots, or have somebody with you to take your vehicle down. |
comments | After takeoff, look for thermals either right on the left (parking, but not over the ridge), on the village with antenna tower straight ahead, or over/nearby the Corio town down on the plain. Best flying in summer in presence of light eastern winds. Good cross country flights towards Val della Torre or towards S.Elisabeta flying sites. |
