comments | Small secluded site. Very little experience gained on this hill to date. Can be turbulent in strong winds, due to trees upwind of bottom landing area, Difficult site to soar. Some would say impossible! The challenge here is to get enough height above take-off (probably in a therm al) and then press forward onto the steep , tree covered ridge that skirts the Thames . Once flying here (Hartslock Wood) , in theory you should experience good dynamic and thermic lift, with a great view of various river craft 'messing about on the river'. Paul's Grove is open March-November. Parking is limited at SU 616796. Do not drive up single track road, but walk (5 mins) to end of it and over stile onto BBONT/English Nature property. Walk up, through woods to top of hill. DO NOT TAKE OFF FROM HEREI Walk along towards fence on east side then follow path north until you come to another fence. Once through this continue up to top of hill. Both fence accesses have wire loops - please replace properly during entrance and exit. Ordnance survey Map: Explorer 159 SU 621 794 Wind Directions: West-south-west to South-west. Best directio n: South-west. Height above sea level: 340ft . Top to bottom height 100/300 ft. Cross country potential: Class G airspace to 4500 ft. No XC flights to date. Best height gain: 50 ft. Pilot level: Low to medium airtime |
