takeoff | Take off from CHRIST's SEAT (the grassy knoll between the South peak (Hermitage) and the Monastery peak. NE-N-NW or SE (keep left of take off ONLY -see flight regulation) |
---|---|
landing | Only TOP landing...on CHRIST's SEAT where you launched from. AND you have to be a really great pilot to land back down here. It is narrow, short and very steep on both sides. The bottom landing is in the ocean. DANGER OF DEATH/DROWNING (do not attempt this!) Do not attempt a slope landing. Do not hope for a bottom landing. Make sure that you have your own water rescue support boat waiting in case you go down, or get blown over the back. |
weather | High winds from the Atlantic. |
rules | There is a Military NO-FLY ZONE beside the site. The Island of Skellig Michael marks the Northern corner of this NO-FLY ZONE. Do not fly in here. If flying from the SE side then please keep left of the take off ONLY. |
access | Hire a boat from Portmagee. It is a 12km trip out into the Atlantic Ocean to get to the island Also regular tour boats leave daily from Portmagee. |
comments | This site is UNFLOWN (unless someone can advise of otherwise) This is an extremely dangerous site. (There is a great RISK OF DEATH) A Water rescue support boat should be waiting below in the event of going down into the water. Wear a LIFE JACKET when flying here. DO NOT attempt an XC from this site. Dont go over the back. This island is a bird sanctuary. The path to the take off is dangerous and exposed. |
