takeoff | N and S TO at end of paved road (HG/ PG); or continue on dirt road to top: ramp for S TO, fields for S and N TO (HG/ PG) |
---|---|
landing | Main landing at the camping place in Laragne-Monteglin: N44.31228 E5.83495, 570m Two intermediate south landings on the way up, visible from the take-off: South landing 1 in large clearing at the foot of the Chabre, surrounded by trees but simple and safe in most winds - can get bouncy in strong thermic conditions; South landing 2 halfway up on the side of the road, rather short but not incredibly difficult: N44.29021 E5.76719, 970m North landing to the NE of the mountain large and well signposted: N44.32000 E5.79139, 600m |
weather | During afternoon in summer wind might be too strong at take-off. Mistral can stop flying if sufficiently strong. Summer: with N-/ NW- wind (after approx 1300) very rough, turbulent thermals can be triggered off the rocky slopes below, which can make TO dangerous > be airborne before! |
rules | ![]() The most recent updates about this area can be found on their website . We highly recommand you to check FFVL information about this site before you come and fly here. |
access | Paved road (except last kilometer to the summit) - suitable for 2WD. Route access is via the south side of the mountain near Chateauneuf de Chabre and is well signposted. |
comments | There are only small roads on the west, so hitch-hiking back may be difficult if you are not on the main roads or in week-ends. Great XC start works best in light South thermic conditions but North can be good as well. |
