takeoff | 3 different TO's available, 2 (lower launch, Coyote) accessible by 2WD (high ground clearance); upper launch requires 4WD; - lower launch: N43 45 48.7 W113 17 29.4, 2270m - upper launch: N43 46 05.9 W113 17 24.0, 2430m - Coyote: N43 44 31.3 W113 17 55.6, 2240m |
---|---|
landing | different 'official' LZ's, but many options in the valley. - King Mtn Glider Park: N43 45 43.2 W113 20 35.6, 1680m - lower LZ: N43 45 14.1 W113 19 36.2, 1700m - upper LZ: N43 45 14.4 W113 18 53.4, 1770m, >>> In the evening it is NOT recommended to land near the base of the mountain (except in the 'official' LZs!!! > fly out into the valley and land near the road or even further west. |
weather | High desert! Strong winds, high cloud base, dust devils, rapidly changing weather, TS, ... |
rules | |
access | 2018: the 'direct' access from LZ's to TO has been washed out and is NOT passable anymore! Access is now via Arco (enter the road at the 'submarine'); follow signs direction 'Arco Pass', then left towards 'Natural Arch'. Finally turn left for 'Beaverland Pass'. Until there it is a pretty good dirt road. Now it becomes a bad track with wash-outs, requiring 4WD and medium to high clearance! Time required from TO to LZ: > 1 hour. |
