takeoff | Launch is open and grassy with some rocks surrounded by bushes and low trees that are forgiving of launch failures - in terms of injury if not so much in terms of time to untangle. In case of parawaiting the Brace launch is a beautiful place to be. It is top-landable with the usual risks. When the wind is cross this is a P4 launch. Fly straight out and get clearance as quickly as possible. |
---|---|
landing | Large grassy LZ with multiple wind indicators. |
weather | Variable. Often stable, but even stable blue days sometimes allow good XC flying. Occasionally conditions are spectacular with working cumulus clouds that don't overdevelop. On these days flights of 100k+ are possible. |
rules | https://mtbraceclub.com The Brace Mountain club has a superb and informative website. Please review it before coming. Besides the information you will need to join the club (for a month or a year) and sign in digitally each day to fly. For your safety if you are a low airtime pilot you must be supervised for your initial flights. The club will support you in this, refer to the website for details. Please be sure also to read the Survival Guide https://mtbraceclub.com/survival-guide. Thanks, and welcome! |
access | There is a hard hike up the front (west) side starting at 2k from the LZ (500m vertical with a brief section of steep rock and a beautiful waterfall), or an easier hike in the back that requires a 40 minute drive from the LZ to the trailhead. |
comments | This is an active, friendly, and welcoming paragliding community. Hang gliders fly Brace when conditions look good but it's a challenge getting them to launch by some combination of 4WD and hand carrying. Come join us! |
